Coruña del Conde is a small village of 80 inhabitants at an altitude of around 1000 metres, located on the high plateau that is the Castilian Meseta, in the province of Burgos (Castilla y León) in the Ribera del Duero region.

The village has been steeped in history since the presence of the Romans and the Arab invasion in 712. The Cid Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar passed through here on his way to exile in 1080. The Inquisition played an important role in 1490, and in 1508 an notable figure in the history of Latin America was born here, the missionary Agustín Gormaz Velasco. Finally, it is the cradle of aviation, following the prowess of the shepherd Diego Marín Aguilera in 1793.

Today we can appreciate a number of remains from these historical periods, such as the medieval castle that dominates the village, its underground galleries, its Roman bridges, the church of San Martín, the hermitage of Santo Cristo de San Sebastián, the door of the old medieval wall, the jurisdictional scroll in the middle of the square, wrought iron sculptures of Diego Marín Aguilera and the Cid created by Félix Prieto, a resident of the village.

A little more than a kilometre away is the Roman city of Clunia and in the surroundings of our small municipality there are many villages and places full of charm and history, such as Peñaranda de

Duero, Caleruega, La Yecla, the Lobos River Canyon, the Sad Hill Cemetery from the famous film “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, and many other places.

The fiestas of Coruña del Conde are the following:

The Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Castro, on the third Sunday in April.

San Juan, on 24th June, traditional summer festivities with religious ceremonies and other festivities.

Saint Martin de Tours, in November, festivities of the Patron Saint of the locality. The tradition of the wooden cart is still carried on, during which the young people of the village spend the day cutting wood in the surrounding woods. In the evening they place the cut wood in the village square and make a pyre that burns all night long.
